She pioneered the only correspondent position at Newtral, reporting from the UK to EU audiences.
She reported on European constitutional law matters, AI ethics, the environment, finance, immigration, and legislation. She was also involved in several projects, such as adapting a Poynter Media Wise fact-checking course for Spanish audiences.

She covered the COVID-19 pandemic in the Bay Area, California, for the New York Times and the Investigative Reporting Program. She reported on the efforts of multiple agencies to provide COVID-19 testing and care, and the xenophobia against Asians and Asian Americans in California.
The Copenhagen Post. News reporter – Aarhus Correspondent, Denmark.
Denmark. September 2019 – March 2020.
Thess pioneered and pitched the creation of the Aarhus correspondent role to expand coverage beyond Copenhagen, becoming the paper’s only Jutland-based staff writer.
She reported and wrote daily news stories for English-speaking audiences in Denmark, coordinating closely with the Copenhagen editorial team, and provided unique regional insights as the only non-Copenhagen-based correspondent, broadening the paper’s national reach.
And she established a lasting position that continued even after she left the paper to attend the University of California, Berkeley School of Journalism.

Thess processed data and records for over 200 students. She focused on communication tasks, social networks, and video production. She also redesigned the safety protocol in case of terrorism or natural disasters and cut UC response time from days to minutes.
